Looks like my guess that they won't be reusing any details from the Balfour building was correct.

No reason we can't build a vibrant, dynamite urban core....
Hamilton seems to be fast progressing to that vision of a vibrant core. The Lister Block restoration really seems to have been a bit of a "turning point" for the downtown, with James North's transformation and gentrification now pushing growth across the greater core.

Now if just more of the lower city can start getting that investment again.

I would say give it 5 years. Hamilton is fast progressing. I hope to move to the downtown soon, so I can live amongst the growth and change.

Agreed.

We've seen some small-scale development and many proposals, but a more widespread snowball-effect of what's happening downtown would be very welcome.

Anybody know what is going in at the corner of James and Barton directly across the street from Jack and Lois? There is definite construction work going on in there(retail and apartments above)

Nice! So it's just being fixed up without any specific tenant.

hmm interesting.. I was wondering how they would tackle the design look of it- interested to see more detailed renders in future.

I hope that white is going to be the white terra-cotta.

I'm pretty sure it is. I really hope it survives, and to do so it must be a destination shop imo. The prices will be on the high end of the range.

Should be interesting to see what develops - a pity they are demolishing their big kitchen..

also is that building beside the fire station EVER going to get a tenant?

I've always wondered about that Capri building off King William - there was that scene in Kick-Ass in front of it. I can't believe that entire addition is a kitchen! It must be huge. This deal makes a lot of sense. That stretch of John has been a curious black hole amidst the revival of the surrounding blocks. Treble Hall kind of failed and none of the businesses seem to be picking up. Two factors are that weird, long unused frontage of the discount building across from Treble Hall, and the meth clinic. But with the condos, hopefully this part of John picks up.

then itll be COCAINE clinics rofl.. meth is the drug of the poor, cocaine is the drug of the rich

but yeah the meth clinic is a problem - I hear in the alleyway out back they are always shooting up and leaving discarded needles everywhere..

we need to start helping people get the help they truly need. I know it was controversial shutting down the mental hospitals but a lot of these people have mental issues.

John St feels like the one street that has almost been totally unaffected by everything happening downtown. There are dozens of potential infill, restoration and improvement opportunities from St. Joes right down to Barton St.

I'm disappointed that the Golden Fortune spot is still empty.
