Downgrade of ETOPS would affect LGW-YYZ routing, which is why WS 4 ended up in Greenland instead of YYT on Tuesday. Original flight plan before diversion added an hour of flight time over the normal flight plan due to ETOPS concerns. (Tuesday's routing supposedly had something to do with a recent lightning strike on LGW-YVR? but not sure the details.) I suppose @ WS prices people won't care if the flight is an hour longer, but it does add cost and adds a daily reminder of the problem fleet.

The new VP was hired late last month and is reportedly coming from UA where he held the same position.

Previously WestJet released its summer schedule in the September to October timeframe. However with the change in leadership of Network Scheduling group, I anticipate that Summer 2017 schedule release to be delayed until November at least.

The one other possibility is that Westjet is holding off releasing the summer schedule for LGW because they want to time the release with the opening of the new international terminal at YYC. An overall schedule release could prominently feature YYC with additional transborder services and LGW daily.

Sorry if this is a total newbie question, but has Calgary ever had the 789 as a regular service? or is this new? I know the 788 has been used here, but I don't recall the 789.

You should move Edelweiss from Star Alliance to other column. Although the owned by Swiss/LH group, Edelwiess is not a Star member.

I must have been living under a rock all year (or just focussed on finishing International Terminal construction..) but this week is the first I have heard of this initiative. Apparently there is a study out to look at privatizing the 8 biggest airports in Canada. There's a thread started over at a.net but I'm wondering what the thoughts on this forum are?

Here's the only (free) article I could find. It's for YVR, but the same would apply to YYC.

AMEX has more complex rules. I have a regular AMEX Platinum Business so I get in. I believe it works for all Platinum and higher charge cards but not credit cards. The AMEX Aeroplan Platinum card may be an exception, not certain on that card.

Also works on domestic but the problem is the AMEX/WestJet lounge is on the WestJet side of the terminal and useless when traveling AC.

AMEX has a good lounge program in Canada. Fly any airline, with AMEX lounges in most major airports. The only problem city is Montreal. and Calgary domestic when traveling AC. In the US there are only a few AMEX lounges, however they have a deal with Delta that provides access to their lounges when flying Delta.

So would this be 763 fleet specific? or include the narrow bodies as well? Funny how Hawaii and Oceania routes are the only ETOPS 180 routes.

I think it would be 763 specific. WS has obviously built up quite a few years of very reliable 737 service to Hawaii from YVR and even those initial YYC/YEG flights that blocked off seats to make it work for range.

How about that, always just assumed they were star alliance subsidiary like Rouge. I'll make the change in this one and the YVR chart.

Here is the amended chart, removed Transat's cancelled service and shifted over Edelweiss.

Is BA serving YYC with the 787-8 or -9 in summer 17? It is unclear on routesonline and even BAs website which version they are sending. Anyone have any info? I've left it a -9 for now in the spirit of optimism.

And here's summer 2016 to compare.

So far sowing a slight decrease in capacity in 2017 due to the TS cuts, but there's still lots of time for additions.

There is one ETOPS cert for the airframe and a second cert for the engine. So if WS got a 763 with RR engines, they would require at least one more ETOPS cert, assuming that airframe and electronics were similar.

Does anyone know if New Leaf has acquired any gates at the airport? There website shows YYC on the list but no flights leaving from here yet.
