What is the plan for the B/C pier? All domestic? Has the floor plan/design been decided and made public?

Yes. Long term, some the bridges are supposed to be configured with more of an emphasis on Props & RJ's. I have even heard rumors of a ground load gate area the end of B...but don't foresee that happening anytime soon.

Nope, I haven't even seen it myself lol. Far from anything being finalized.

I'm not familiar with the Dornier 328. Does anyone have a pic of this aircraft - and know where they are built???

Built in Germany, I think. Calm Air flies one out of Winnipeg and I think either Canadian North or First Air have taken one onto their Yellowknife / Rankin Inlet / Iqaluit route.

It's a noisy little beast with a fairly high pitch jet whine. Given the routes they're on the main advantage for me is that they're faster than the propeller alternative. The cabin is a bit cramped in a 1 / 2 configuration, although there is one window exit seat on the single side that is fairly luxurious.

Speaking of cramped seats, I had the misery of flying on the BA 787 in steerage yesterday. My previous experience on a 787 had been in business and was lovely. The back of BA's was positively Rouge-esque. Didn't help that I was sitting beside a grandpa with restless legs and no sense of personal space. Great plane, but an inhuman spot to have to inhabit for 9 hours.

Ah you're thinking of the Dornier 328 jet variant, the one Flair has (that used to be owned by Shell) is the turboprop version.

Oh. OK. I assumed we were talking the jet. It seems a little more funky and unique than the turboprop (which looks to me kind of like a knock-off ATR 42).

This foot-rubbing, back massaging, reach-around-happy-ending mentality of air travel is ridiculous. Nothing against you personally, but do people really expect Maybach treatment for Lada price? It's gotten out of hand. Does anyone have a clue about what it costs to staff, train, fly, maintain an egregiously expensive tube of metal nowadays....?
---I haven't even mentioned ground facilities, ATS, and airport costs, etc. (until now)

Maybe it's me. I've always been bewildered by the notion of air travel. I've always looked at it as "fancy bus travel". As long as I get there with little-to-no hassle, then I'm satisfied.

I agree completely. Any time I get to set foot on a plane, it's really a privilege.

I fully understand the miracle of air travel and the magic of air fare prices. I remember paying almost as much for cross country flights in the 80's as I do now (in spacious, half empty planes while eating a hot meal, accessed with triplicate tickets that had to bought in person, sometimes with cash). I am also fully aware of the margins of many companies and the fact that airlines (and aircraft makers) go bankrupt on a regular basis. I'm just thinking that the spread between the comforts of the front and the discomforts of the rear have gotten a bit crazy. I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a seat even remotely approaching the comfort of a modern bus. But I'm not going to pony up $1000 for an upgrade (what they were asking on BA).

I don't think the complaining has gotten out of hand. I do, however, wonder whether the cut-throat competition on prices (at the rear) and service (at the front) is beginning to create a profoundly unpleasant product. Wardair was ridiculous for one set of reasons. Rouge may be equally idiotic, but for the opposite reasons.

I used to fly to and from work. Generally had the entire row to myself on those flights which was pretty nice. Still just a 737 though, nothing special.

Int'l 2017 Summary

With the upcoming International Terminal this is what the International service looks like for Summer 2017... Obviously subject to change... Not including sun destinations... fingers crossed for more:

Air Canada
LHR daily 789
FRA daily 789
NRT daily 788

British
LHR daily 788

KLM
AMS daily 4x789 3x333

Hainan
PEK 3x788

Westjet
LGW 5x763

Air Transat
LGW 3x332
AMS 1x332 (originates in YVR)

Condor
FRA 3x763

Edelweiss
ZRH 2x343

Total of 52 flights per week to 5 European and 2 Asian destinations... not bad! Down from 55 pw this past summer. MAN, CDG and GLA have been cut as destinations but PEK and ZRH have been gained.

The airlines are responding. Well Air Canada. On the international flights Premium Economy is a good compromise. On the domestic narrow body they have a economy plus type area in the first few rows of economy with extra space. To reserve a seat in that area you have to pay a little bit more.

Hey Johnny at what point does an airline decide to change the above schedule? I understand it can be done anytime but i am specifically interested in WestJet's LGW operation. Will they be looking at YEG-LGW and YWG-LGW bookings for a bit before chopping those routes and increasing YYC-LGW to daily? Or would this change have been announced by now.

YYC and YEG related, but an AC pilot posting over at a.net in a thread about the WS 767 ops problems said that with the two engine related diversions in such a short time Transport Canada are possibly reviewing their ETOPS certification. While this would probably not affect the Europe ops it would most definitely affect YYC/YEG-Hawaii flights.

Not sure if this has been answered,

but does anyone know if the international departures of IFP will have a executive lounge?
I recall seeing one in the USA departures, but I am unsure if its dual access

Yep. The International Lounge is actually located one level above Transborder on the "Mezzanine." Access is from a set of elevators located in the corridor between Vin Room and Chili's.

WestJet terminated their VP Network and Commercial Strategy back in the summer. The VP walked the plank over the LGW operation and 763 debacle.

The new VP was hired late last month and is reportedly coming from UA where he held the same position.

Previously WestJet released its summer schedule in the September to October timeframe. However with the change in leadership of Network Scheduling group, I anticipate that Summer 2017 schedule release to be delayed until November at least.

The one other possibility is that Westjet is holding off releasing the summer schedule for LGW because they want to time the release with the opening of the new international terminal at YYC. An overall schedule release could prominently feature YYC with additional transborder services and LGW daily.

As YYC Engineer stated above, yes there will be a contract executive lounge in both transborder and and international sections. Both lounges will be operated by Servisair as are the two current contract lounges (Chinook and Rocky Mountain). New to YYC is that both lounges will be at the Aspire Level, Servisair's highest level of comfort for lounge product line.

Amex Card holders will get in free (plus one guest or immediate family members). WestJet lounge ticket will get entrance. Everyone can get in for a fee plus same day boarding pass.

Currently AC flights will have the domestic MLL as their lounge. AC pax will have to checkin at the Premium counters in International terminal, then walk past Marriott entrance and clear security at checkpoint C. Prior to boarding they will have to walk or take the YYC Link to the D/E terminus station. I anticipate their to be a lot of complaints from YYC based AC pax. I suspect that AC will give out tickets to the Aspire Lounge for the winter season and then open an international or transborder lounge in 10-14 months time.
