And now look at all that perfectly good structure that the province left...so they could go pay massive rents in Mosaic Tower.

I have good information that Original Joes will be opening a location at the Northgate Mall. The plans are finalized!

This is a long time in the making. I first heard of them opening a location at Northgate in the winter/spring of 2014

Would make sense. Amy's Winehouse was a weird/tiny place (super narrow). The province hasn't approved new full-line liquor stores, so I'd expect (if it goes ahead) Scarth St Liquor will be an expanded version of Amy's Winehouse (which is really an off-sale).

I was never very impressed with Amy's Winehouse, but I do know folks who come in from out of town & they find it odd that there isn't a liquor store/off-sale in the heart of downtown. Most aren't willing to venture to Broad SLGA or the Empire.

Always figured Amy's was catering to a niche market... maybe this expansion implies the niche is bigger than I thought.

Aerial view of Mosaic Stadium

Migs posted this photo on the Stadiums thread. It's a good one, so I'll repost here for the general Regina audience.

Yesterday's Leader-Post article on the stadium hinted at the idea of a semi-pro soccer team becoming a second tenant at Mosaic.

That would be cool. A rugby team in the new North American league coming in 2017 would be great too (though I don't know if they could configure it, or what kind of interest there'd be in the city).

A Rugby field would fit considering NMS is designed for a FIFA soccer pitch. A CFL field is 137m long x 59m wide. Soccer and Rugby have similar widths.

Dimensions
The playing area length—the length of the field not including the in-goal areas—is not to exceed 100 meters (M), and the in-goal areas must be between 10 and 22M deep. With that, the total field length must be between 120 and 144M, and the field must be no more than 70M wide. Also, the playing area is defined by the dead-ball lines, touch lines, and touch-in-goal lines.

Earlier in the thread there was mention of both a Cora and Famoso going in the strip mall going up along Rochdale Blvd in the Super Store Parking lot.Does anyone know if these have actually been confirmed?

Are there any other businesses confirmed for that area other than Montana's, Swiss Chalet, Harveys, Shoppers and Scotiabank? Just wondering what else to look forward to there.

Four months ago, I heard that Cora's was "looking" for a new location somewhere on Rochdale Blvd.

http://leaderpost.com/business/local-business/regina-economy-slowing-but-still-growing

David Froh, vice-president of RROC, noted the city is still seeing population growth, despite the slower economy. “Our population growth of 2.8 per cent (in 2014) is triple our 20-year average. And the vast majority of that is international migration, including refugees. That’s a net positive for the Regina economy.”

Froh’s only concern is that our population is growing faster than the job market. “The population growth is far exceeding our job growth,” he said, adding the city needs to continue to diversify the economy, invest in infrastructure and increase skills training.

As the housing market struggled to absorb the record housing starts in 2013, both residential permits and housing starts dropped sharply from 2014. However, industrial, commercial, and institutional building permit activity remains strong in the first eight months of 2015, offsetting the drop in residential permits.

While the pace of growth represents a downward revision from previous years, Froh said Regina’s projected 1.6 per cent growth in 2015 remains the eighth highest in Canada and well ahead of Calgary and Edmonton. “We’ve undoubtedly been hurt by the downturn in the oilpatch, we’ve lost roughly 2,500 jobs,” Froh said, but noted that “we’re the only oil-producing region that’s avoiding a recession.”

Are you sure it wasn't 'CARA'? They are the corporation that owns Montanas, Swiss Chalet and Harveys.

Just heard on the weekend that Leopold's is opening another location on Rochdale. Anyone else hear that?

Broad St. LB is the only Regina location slated for sell-off (if SK Party's re-elected). It'll be interesting to see who steps up to buy that store (employees get first dibs) - Co-op is keen to expand their liquor stores, but I doubt a store like Broad St is in their cross-hairs.

Co-op's more likely to bid on one of the 3 new Regina-area locations (Regina; White City/Emerald Park; & Pilot Butte)

Also interesting to note that Sobey's made a generic statement after this announcement that implied they're interested in exploring further SK expansion... Willow Park, on the other hand said their sales are 30% below forecast (which I read to say they're not planning an expansion any time soon).
