I wonder if any of this is related to the fact they closed down the ORA T&T last year? Not usually a great sign even if it was a questionable location.

Some neighbours want the LED screens at Gilmore Place to be turned off until other phases are built to block it.

That screen is not 24/7. It’s off after 11PM. Developer has also reduced brightness. Those residents are simply retarded.

A Shoppers Drug Mart is coming to Gilmore Place

Will be interesting to see what happens to the one nearby at Solo.

Metrotown already has two locations at 4429 Kingsway and 4827 Kingsway, so this would not set a precedent. In my view, the Gilmore area presents its own unique context that could justify a dedicated Shoppers location.

Solo will probably still pull in more traffic than Gilmore Place when you look at the surrounding development even if it is closer to the Skytrain station. Maybe they got a good deal from Onni to open there.

I was thinking Loblaw might've gotten some type of sweetheart deal for the T&T and Shoppers.

Gilmore Place's leasing brochure lists that unit at 28,700 sqft which is pretty massive for a Shoppers.

There's also a location just down the street at Willingdon (Old Orchard, next to the Save-On).

Will both the Gilmore and Solo locations be big? Also they might have one open later at night than the other.

That's actually the 4429 Kingsway location

But regardless, there's also another one besides these two, that's inside the Mall on the second floor next to the Walmart.

So technically speaking, the area has 3 of them.
hich means the notion of Brentwood having two so close by to each other, wouldn't be so out there.

It helps that the Metrotown locations are decently spread out enough that they likely never cannibalize each others' foot traffic, and while the Mall location only operates during Mall hours (meaning closed by 9 or 7pm depending on the day of the week), I believe the other two are open till midnight(?)

The Solo shoppers isn't that big or great, their beauty section kinda sucks. A better Beauty section would be nice.

Re the screen I've driven past that place three times in the last few days and I cannot locate the screen, Is it really high up or something?

I think it's on the top level of the podium above those angled concrete columns next to the Skytrain guideway?

I saw something on facebook earlier today about thrifty Foods opening in Brentwood and then someone commented abiut T&T, so long story short one person said that T&T is not going to open there at Gilmore because they have not been given enough parking for the store, and were offered some side parking lot next door in addition but didn't want that so apparently T&T will not be opening a store there. Anyone know anything or heard the same?

That could be true if they were relying on parking in Phase 2 which seems to be delayed.

Someone said they finally blocked out the windows on the unit last month so maybe they're working on it. And the contractor had their signs in the window with some tables inside back in January

I think people were complaining about the $6 charge (I assume T&T will validate) and the bad parking layout/limited entrances.

That would be a very illogical and car-brained decision if true. The whole Brentwood area got decent population density within walkable distances. It is connected by skytrain and frequent buses. Unless the parking allotment is beyond unreasonably pitiful, I think that'd be a terrible decision to not open a T&T there as planned. There are plenty of people living within the immediate surrounding area who can support it.
