Although it does go to Selkirk, so I dunno. The Selkirk corridor would be the solution there.
I agree. Especially if it's an Expressway-style Highway, it should be system Interchange. The Parclo would be needed because traffic lights have been installed on McPhillips Street North of Leila to the Perimeter. And Kapelus Drive will be linked to Grassmere, so that will make sense eventually. But I think that the Cloverleaf could stay as is for a while as the Perimeter and Grassmere, along with Rossmore and Perimeter are well spaced out. If they'd put a Parclo AB2 at Grassmere Road, I feel like the Cloverleaf would still be sufficient.

Same goes with the Brookside Interchange with Lilyfield Church Road and Mollard, but they have more space between the Interchange. But they still have a System Interchange planned there.

The Highways that have more local access should definetely have Service Interchanges. Main St, Portage Ave, and Pembina Highway both should be converted to Parclo A4 (they will be eventually, but could be done easily). Those roads should accomidate both Active Transport and Bus Stops.

Hwy 6, 3, and 15 will be Service Interchanges due to their proximity to businesses. And they wouldn't really justify System Interchanges because they don't have much Intercity Connection.

Actually, given the long-distance nature of Highway 6, system interchange may be warranted.

In the plans, it appears we will get a Service Interchange in the short term. But in the Long Run, a System Interchange would be needed. Maybe if the Port of Churchill gets expanded and used for the Northern Passage for shipping, I feel like it could help unlock the potential of Highway 6.

When I was in MB a couple of months ago, I noticed that they are stockpiling gravel at 3 and 18. I am thinking they are going to resurface hwy 3 from there to Crystal City. Too bad they won't fix 18 south to the border.

No way, that's our first line of defence. Beat the shit out of the Bradley's and Abrams before they get to the good pavement!

Regarding Extensions of Hwy 6 to Churchill, not impossible, but very expensive. Right now they'd be upgrading railway capacity as a starter because it already exists.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/churchill-build-road-engineer-1.4174034

A Highway to Churchill will likely be a long time because of the permafrost obviously. It is definetely possible if they use Geotextiles that help seperate rock from the permafrost. But it would be astronomical because of Engineering Challenges like Flooding. And it probably won't ever become a paved road as it would be breaking constantly.

But Highway 6 as it is already would be hypothetically used for trucking to and from Centreport to Thompson. The Railway wouldn't be decommisioned, but it just takes longer to go from Churchill to Winnipeg, versus a truck that could carry certain loads faster.

A road to Churchill is definitely on the table and if they want to modernize Churchill and the port, it is time.

As the article says, it's not impossible to overcome these challenges. IMO a 2 lane paved road is within reason for a nation building type project. Longer term work on twinning of #6. Again, nation building, general access, etc. We'll probably be long dead before that point. The passing lanes that will be installed is a start.

if we build it we need to invest in freezing the ground infrastructure and maintain it hopefully pr391 see some investment into the churchill river brdge that things got a wooden deck thats getting beat to hell from poor maintince using cold pack

It would be one of:

Using the existing PR 280 to Gillam and going north at some point there. Which probably makes the most sense.

Or doing a straight shot from Thompson across god's country to Churchill, which makes less sense.

Maybe they re-designate the PR to #6 or just leave it as is. Arguing semantics mostly. PR 280 is definitely not the best road. So upgrading to a paved PTH highway status would help with that.

In terms of dealing with permafrost. I don't think keeping it frozen is an approach. They could excavate down a bit, place an insulating layer, and building up with gravel and geosynthetics. Probably about it really.

Let us know if M.T.I. ever gets to extending PTH-6 to Churchill. On the Ontario side, we’ve also contemplated building the all-season roads to Hudson’s Bay.

Wouldn't it be most logical to follow the existing rail line minus any geographic limitations? The rail line generally follows 280 and 290 up to the Limestone hydro dam where it straight shots it north.

From a maintenance perspective, road to access the rail line, and rail to access to road would be helpful maintenance or breakdown situations.

Pretty much ya. Would provide the rail line with much easier access.

Depending upon how things are going/have gone, with the railway and upgrades. It may also be easier and better to rebuild sections of the rail line that are in bad locations.

I think the whole idea here is to build a corridor. Pipelines, roads, electric, rail. The road part would be the first critical step in all of that.

I made these Highway Corridor Ideas that would be helpful to keep connection with the Manitoba Highway System.

I feel like the Lynn Lake to Gillam Road could be upgraded and maybe called Highway 28 or 80, referencing Highway 280. Hwy 39 used to be part of Hwy 6 before it was extended North to Thompson. The Highway to Churchill could become Highway 90. I envision Highway 90 connecting from the Port of Churchill to Sundance, and from Sundance to the Ring of Fire Area, then Moosonee and eventually Cochrane ON.

I've been lately looking at many roads across Rural Manitoba. In 1992, there was a Decommissioning of many Provincial Secondary Roads that were converted back to Municipal status.

I notice that there are many obsolete Provincial Roads in Manitoba that should be decommisioned, or consolidated with major Highways. I feel like consolidation of certain Highways into singular corridors can help improve connection in rural areas and between connecting towns.

I looked at Highway 206 and 216. Hwy 216 runs from Highway 59 near Rosa to Highway 311 near New Bothwell. And 206 runs from Highway 44 North of Birds Hill Park to Highway 52 near Mitchell MB. I feel like Highway 216 (from Hwy 59 to 52) and 206 (entire length) should become a unified Highway, maybe PTH 26. While yeah, there is a PTH 26 already, that should maybe just trade and become 206, or maybe 1A.

Also the Highway 227, 67, and 44 corridor should be unified and become Highway 4. It would be a great idea to promote it as a tourist route because it would connect the Southern Lake Manitoba Communities to Whiteshell Provincial Park. While Hwy 227 needs upgrades, I feel like this corridor could make this more possible.

I think it would make sense to get Highway 305 from Hwy 75 to 59 to be part of Hwy 52. Maybe could be extended to Brunkild eventually if it gets paved.

And I notice there are many PR Routes that aren't paved and should be given to the municipalities for local travellers. Some PRs don't really have much purpose besides serving a few farms. Most of PR 303's Route in 1992 was decommissioned, leaving only a segment behind between PTH 12 and PR 302, which locals want it paved but isn't a provincial priority. PR 305 between PTH 2 and Brunkild should be decommissioned in general. PR 425, nobody really acknowledges but runs along the route where Centreport Canada Way will be built. Therefore it will become a service road for the latter eventually.

I'm just about 40 and I would be shocked if they pulled that off by the time I die. Really in this century at all would shock me.

They'd have to basically abandon every other major infrastructure project in the province to do that.

So expensive and difficult to do construction in that region due to conditions and no one living there. And really not even close to having the economic benefit everyone thinks is there when they look at a map.
