This perspective is especially stunning.
Thanks for the fine comment!
You know, there are many beautiful cities in North America, that's why I never dare saying Québec City is THE most beautiful (I think it sounds a bit arrogant / Haughty), but is it in North America's top 10 or even top 5? Most certainly!
Though, I can definitely say that Quebec City is unique!

The L shaped patio to the left with the lights and wood beams is a permanent fixture for a bars and restaurant complex while everything else on the green canopy is added for a month long on their parking and the street for the occasion of Les terrasses Urbaines Cogeco.

A summer happening where St-Germain street (the main street) is pedestrianized for a few blocks from mid July to mid August and becomes a family/touristy venue of restaurants and pubs terrasses. It also features different small activities and animations offerings depending of the time of the day.

Thank you. Looks like that photo was taken at a "quiet" time, but these things do tend to be very popular, and I imagine draw lots of people especially in a place the size of Rimouski.

I wish more places would do this... closing streets to automobiles for festivals and "people" activities seems to be very successful, but with the inevitable backlash from drivers pained at having to find alternative routes.

The past couple of years Hamilton has closed a long section of one of its main streets (3+ km of a mostly 4-lane one-way portion of King St.) for the middle part of a Sunday; it was done twice this year. Despite such an important route through the city being closed to cars, the event has been a hit and I hope the city continues to expand on the idea.

Video Link

In the past they've also closed a bridge at a key (and scenic) entryway into the city, hosting a fundraiser dinner on the bridge as part of the day.

Downtown Moncton is finally beginning to take off with high rise development, with at least four projects in advanced planning stages and one development underway (the Three Sisters).

There is a public meeting planned for one of the developments (the Gateway Towers), two 17 storey apartment buildings, right on the riverfront, connected by a pedway, with a public access path to the riverfront trail underneath, extending from Foundry Street. It is a very nice proposal.

In any event, an unholy alliance is developing to oppose this project and they plan to hijack the public meeting. This cabal will include eco-activists concerned about the river, anti-development people in general (Luddites who pine away for a Moncton from the 1950s) and, unhinged conspiracy theorists (15 minute cities!!!).

I took this picture the other day. Someone painted Grandpa Simpson on this street pole years ago, even before the Three Sisters started to go up. I thought it encapsulated the current situation with the naysayers quite well.

Leader of downtown Moncton anti-development coalition yells at tall buildings under construction.

/\ perfect photo for the times MonctonRad, haha.

And interesting sets of photos from Surrey, Rimouski and Saskatoon! Hmm, feels like there should be a connection between these three, just don’t know what. Perhaps part of a cross country tour of a folk/country band?

Anyways, what’s your thoughts on Surrey Sponge G? Second largest municipality in the province and only getting bigger. Is it possible for any of the Vancouver suburbs to truly urbanize, or I should say have a traditional downtown core? Yes, there’s New West (thanks to being a city before Vancouver), but personally I don’t find it appealing in its current iteration, but it is the closest. Has any North American suburb successfully made such a transition, or is there another model that brings together the best aspects of a traditional downtown in a new form?

Echoes, great Saskatoon pics as always! Love those older brick apartments and of course the cute small wood houses - probably an under appreciated aspect of Canadian cities.

Wow, what a collection of photos this weekend

First SHH’s pics:

They totally misplaced this sign - it should have been placed 1 km closer to town. I’m sure most residents of Corner Brook would agree

html upload image

Love these long roads and rolling hills - something we just don’t see on the island.. er, Vancouver Island

What’s going on here - a recreational trail for ATVs adjacent to the beach or are they allowed on it?

Is the cleared land to be used for housing, farmland?

And finally what a gorgeous view/photo:

And what a visually stunning TO set, thanks MonkeyRonin. The one photographer I haven’t heard of before was Tom Fournier Park, so I’m now following him on Flickr. I love this style of photography, one that is full of colour and not afraid to show the chaos of urban life while still thoughtful of photographic principles. Sure the odd abstract photo is cool, but I rather see context so I get a sense of time and place because all cities are unique and I love to see that captured.

Since many Canadian forumers never leave the Canadian sub forum section of this website, I thought you guys might enjoy Buffalonian forumer benp photo tour of Buffalo, NY:

It's better than you probably picture in your mind if you have decades old stereotypes of the city in your head (particularly southern Ontarians)

thanks for the reminder to check out the photo forum Wigs - hoping to see more photos of Buffalo’s art deco architecture in part 2 of benp’s photo thread I assume is upcoming.

Echoes - if you don’t already you should work for Saskatoon’s tourism board, very scenic set!

Not my pics today, but an interesting one I saw on Flickr of the rare thunderstorm we had in Victoria last week, we’re lucky to get one a year if that. Taken from Victoria looking across the Salish Sea to our neighbour Port Angeles in the US. The city lights themselves aren’t very impressive at night as it’s a small city, but the lightning really lit up the lower mountains.

Lightning by SebblesVic, on Flickr

Speaking of Port Angeles - here’s a recent photo of the Coho ferry coming in from there and you can see some construction that’s beginning of a new inner harbour ferry terminal. That won’t be completed until 2028 at a cost of 300 million plus.

DHE_6167 by Cameron Knowlton, on Flickr

A photo of mine from last year also shows where the fast catamarans Victoria Clipper docks, it’s a passenger only ferry that does the route to Seattle. The larger of the two holds 525 passengers.

Victoria BC Inner Harbour, October 3, 2023, 1:44 p.m. by JohnnyJayEh, on Flickr

Going back in time the Kalakala used to be the ferry between Victoria and Port Angeles from 1946 to 1947 and again from 1955 to 1959. It was a streamlined Art Deco beauty, pic below 1958 in the Inner Harbour and then one of it in Seattle when it was used locally in Puget Sound.

A cool shot of it in Victoria in 1947 from BC Archives:
