I actually went out for a drive all around on the weekend and I must say the majority of the view is maintained.
That said, I do think the criticism about colour and form is legit because it is situated in the greenbelt along an important view corridor. I understand that a lot of people find the obsession of view corridors and "capital views" is overdone but I disagree. I think more cities should be held to higher standards and Ottawa is held to a standard I think most cities should be only because of it's role as the capital.
That said,
this issue is way over blown!
Someone mentioned the Disney "Go Away Greens" which are found in hydro meters and other utility boxes across North America. Hopefully in the long run we could see it repainted and perhaps this should have been on the radar from the start.

Our eyes are drawn to contrast and you could hardly choose a higher contrast then blinding white vs blue sky and green acres.
