I was just looking at the same document. While the grey/green spandrel is double glazed glass, the white panels are shown as metal, so wouldn't light up from behind. But those DP drawings also show the horizontal elements as anodized aluminum, and I'm pretty sure the 'as built' are glass, so there seem to have been some changes since the DP was submitted. I think they're probably just to break up the massing, and they're not symmetrical just to mess with officedweller.
