Intracorp moves forward with 37-storey tower at Metrotown

Intracorp Homes is planning a 37-storey market residential tower at 6525 Telford Avenue, near Metrotown.
The tower will contain 332 market residential units, ranging from small studios to three-bedroom homes.
This will be Intracorp and architect NSDA’s fourth residential high-rise in the Maywood neighbourhood of Metrotown.
As is the case with Burnaby redevelopments in the Metrotown neighbourhood, the proposal includes a rental component. Adjacent to the tower will be a six-storey, rental apartment building with 66 units, 54 of which will be designated affordable to replace the units that will be lost in the redevelopment.
A public art component, by Douglas Coupland, will be paid for by the developer and add to the Beresford Art Walk.
The architects describe the design rationale as follows:
Building materials and colors are intended to be refined and simple. Bright white brick, concrete, panels and metal foreground frame elements contrast with a deep background of charcoal and gunmetal grey for the window frames, mullions and spandrel glass so that they “pop” and become more meaningful elements in the composition. Mid-range fields are light grey to mediate between this contrast when needed. Bamboo wood-colored metal elements as feature columns at the amenity interfaces, allude to the “bamboo” references of the building concept. Charcoal lower levels highlighted with white brick treatments at the perimeter create a strong base for the street-scale elements while 3 storey brick-clad frames and bump-outs provide a consistent visual language connecting the two buildings.
