Bingo. I had a layover in NY last year and used the check-in at JFK. I was surprised at how little there is for retail compared to the post security section. It makes sense, most people are now pick up and drop off, and when the passengers are dropped off they go right to the check in. Retail in the post security area is kinda pointless these days.
