Definitely old and cranky NIMBY's driving a lot of it, but the other aspect that isn't polite to talk about is that many of those driving opposition simply don't want too many of the 'wrong' kinds of people to have easy access to their walled garden. These would be the kinds of people who don't drive Mercedes.
