There is a
thread about this on the Vancouver forum.
I think the general consensus is that the Strait of Georgia is much too deep (300+m) and much too busy as a shipping channel for a bridge to be built. Besides, in my opinion, Vancouver Island is much larger than PEI and I didn't really feel disconnected or separated from the rest of country when I lived there. The ferries are just fine.
