Ok so someone goes to the time and trouble with totally rebuilding a house and then stops short of not burying some wires. It's ridiculous.

You are right there's lots of other more esthetically horrible things out there but removing wires is pretty easy to do relative to building a whole house.

And they are ugly as shit. Not sure what the "supposedly" means. If you think they look good then we clearly have different opinions lol. (And I don't even live anywhere near Ottawa)
