I still find it fascinating that 26% of people who travel through the tunnel do so on transit, which only accounts for 1% of vehicle trips (source, page 5). This is the maddening disconnect with how the Ministry of Transportation operates: a substantial increase in transit service, coupled with a right-sized new 6 lane Alex Fraser-style bridge, could easily relieve congestion, move people and goods efficiently, and require significantly less capital and engineering complexity than an oversized 10 lane bridge.
