Most European leagues run from August to May, so they play in a lot of dreary weather (especially the northern leagues) during the winter and spring part of their season. MLS (which also plays during the spring season) has more covered stadiums than any other North American league. Baseball also plays in the spring, but of course they tend to cancel games when it rains.
