There are now two active proposals to build new airports in Rocky View. Both parties own the land they would build on.

One is pretty modest, similar in scope to Parkland Airport which was built by the refugees left with nowhere to go when YXD closed. The other is huge with potentially two runways (and room to extend one of the runways to 8000 feet) and a passenger terminal intended for fly-in/fly-out or possibly a low-cost carrier.

I have seen a site plan for the larger of the proposals.

Calgary and Edmonton also have the interest of a Texas based developer who has built several private airfields for corporate aviation.
