Thank you gjhall, for acknowledging that OSMUG, of course had a PR firm working this whole scheme. They knew this would be profoundly unpopular in the local community, and realized that others might question giving away public land for private mall and condos, the dubious process, the fishy financials, etc.
What better way to divert people's attention than to create a campaign to vilify the critics, and swaddle the whole thing in the warm, fuzziness of football? Everybody loves football (except those killjoy, no-goodnik, NIMBY Glebites). Right?
It's intriguing how hard Smilin' Jim Watson continues to spin on Lansdowne. There will be more trees than before (in 20 years), Sylvia Holden wasn't really a park (but all other "parks" without enacting bylaws, wil in the Future be parks), we have a plan for transportation (many times fewer onsite parking spaces than the Official Plan would require, but don't worry, somehow we'll get people busing and cycling here in unprecedented numbers, even though we're a long way from the Transitway), etc.
He can stop now! OSMUG won. All the critics are now, are annoying cranks posting on obscure discussion forums in the wee hours of the morning.
