If you are cycling, you do not have to wait for the pedestrian light at pedestrian/bicycle activated signals (ones with a flashing green on the main street and no red or green lines on the side street). All you have to do is stop and wait until you can cross the street safely. Drivers can do the same, in fact, they have to as they can't activate the signal without getting out of the car.
