I found the problem in your argument. The U.S. doesn't like to think of itself as being "imperialist" what with its former colonial history and all, but the fact of the matter was that at the height of imperialism, the U.S. was imperialist (although to a much smaller degree than, say, Britain) and that we remain enormously culturally imperialist.
