2010-2011 Sun Charters
For those who have not noticed, the first batch of Sun Charter schedules for the 2010-2011 Winter season have apeared. The Sunwing/Signature websites and the major omnibus booking engines are taking bookings for Sunwing/Signature.
From Edmonton, as near as I can make out, there will be Sunwing flights to Cuba(2), Jamiaica (1), Cancun(3), Puerto Vallarta(2), and los Cabos(1). This past season Sunwing had Cuba(1), Cancun(2), and Puerto Vallarta(1), plus a brief escapade to Los Vegas. On the other hand, this passed season Signature seems to have had flights to Los Cabos and Huatalco on Transat/Canjet aircraft which we presume will not happen this coming season.
As we know, there were no Skyservice flights for Signature or Sunquest at all this winter from Edmonton; all their customers were placed on Transat charters. I never heard a good explanation of how that deal worked. This year Sunquest has a new airline (Jazz) but we do not yet know if they will operate flights from out west.
Sometimes the tour companies do not release their schedules until July. One would expect Transat to reduce capacity a bit due to the loss of the Signature traffic, but, on the other hand, during their recent conference call their boss, chastened by poor results, made noises suggesting they would pile on more capacity this time.
Westjet Vacations may continue to add flights from Edmonton, but they are still a small player. I do not expect Air Canada Vacations to do much from Edmonton.
Sorry to waste bandwidth. There is still lots of time for all these musings to turn into silliness.
