This was in the allnovascotia, however they indicated that the cost of the convention centre portion of the project is expected to be around $100 million. Nobody expects the city to be responsible for the office or hotel portion. I wouldn't put too much faith in these numbers; since the hotel and office would be a private investment, I don't see how it will end up being $400 - $100 million equal to $300 million. These numbers might be coming from "Save our View"
One point to make regarding residential development for this site is that there are other approved projects "on hold" in the downtown core because of a soft market. If this were residential then it would likely just be one more project "on hold". In another allnovascotia.com article, it was stated that the Salter residential/hotel project is more likely to proceed if this project proceeds since it will bring more visitors to the city.
