Montreal and Geneva are good airports to connect through, not too big and not too small. The only issue with Montreal is that their post-security concessions / shops are quite limited relative to their pre-security concessions / shops. Geneva's airport is relatively small but they have decent international service and easyjet is also a main airline there so there is choice.

GVA is a great airport with excellent connections throughout Europe and points beyond, plus it's easy to reach on public transport or even bicycle. Nevertheless, it seems pretty small considering it serves 10 million passengers. YEG is definitely nicer esthetically, although it's missing the Rolex dealers post security.
