The only thing it will do is ensure that gov'ts properly take into account the impact of their megaprojects, and are upfront about the methods of construction.

The early London Underground lines were cut and cover, until they learned it was too disruptive. Maybe Gordo should have had his minions do some research.

..Yes i do believe that people deserve a good warning period (which was given) and that measures should be taken by the government to advertise that these businesses still exist (which was done) but then it is also up to the community to help itself. How come the cambie street businesses did not become creative together and maybe organize "construction public festivals/markets" on the weekends durinng the summer or organize other such public meets and events through out the year? Construction sure makes a good spooky scene for a good halloween festival! No wait, because then the residents would complain! Maybe we should blame Vancouver's NIMBY attitude for their failure and not the government...

Festivals and markets, quaint as they may be, are not going to lure people to a war zone of construction, especially when there are plenty of alternatives.
