How dare they take advantage of a massive international spotlight to express an opinion! Yes, it sucks, they're 'ruining' the games, but if we did more to prevent these problems (drugs, poverty, homelessness, etc. The PETA thing is just their typical bullshit, I expect Greenpeace will get in on it too eventually) this wouldn't be happening. The have a point, even if they have a shitty way of trying to get it across. (For example, vandalizing a clock isn't doing anyone a favour.)

I agree that PETA is a crazy violent organization. Not as bad as Greenpeace but I wouldn't say they're helping anything with what they do. They create controversy and offend people, leading people to believe that all vegetarians or all people who care about animals are lunatics when that isn't the case. I think they hurt animals and vegetarians more than they help them, and reactions like this agree.
