Ever since I was a kid growing up in LA in the late 70's, The Tower has been my favorite. I was raised in El Monte and along with my kid brother,my parents would do a monthly trip to downtown via R.T.D. I even remember RTD using the old red car station in El Monte for it's terminus at the end of it's San Bernardino Fwy Busway that connected EM to downtown.
Once we got off near Olympic/Broadway, we would walk north on Broadway and pass by The Tower. We would then get some grub and go to The Million Dollar Theatre and Watch a first run Mexican movie followed by a variety show featuring singers and sometimes actors from the feature film. It was a big shin dig and production. Ever since then I have always talked to my fellow angelenos about downtwon but they would think I was crazy. To them downtown was an awful/ugly/dirty place to be at. 30 yrs later I am enjoying the fruition of my craziness about downtown.
