Sewer overflows are a large part of the issue, particularly regarding False Creek. Here's Metro Vancouver's sewer map to compare for yourself. There's still a few sewer overflows on the North Shore side of Burrard inlet, but most are on the Vancouver side. False Creek also deals with more CSOs than it should considering it's a very small body of water and doesn't have much of a natural current.
