North Vancouver council gives final OK to what will be the North Shore's tallest tower

The tallest tower on the North Shore is about to be built.

On Monday, District of North Vancouver council gave final approval to a large mixed-use project at 1634 and 1748 Capilano Road.

Once completed, there will be a 37-storey tower – stepping down to a wider, 11-storey wing – with 430 market rental units and 48 below-market units. That includes a $16-million partnership with YWCA to deliver 18 family-oriented, subsidized rental suites. At ground level, there will be several units for commercial use.

The project will also erect a second building with 171 hotel units over 12 storeys. The two structures will be separated by a newly built road.

Currently on the site are Best Western and Econo Lodge motels.
