You sound exactly like my brother (who of course did not vote for Kinew) - with this very black and white view of "he did this so I won't do that" (you even went into Goodwin's Law territory).
IMO, in this particular case, it's definitely in the realm of grey. There is always something to be said for a person who evolves from doing shitty stuff in their 20s to achieving what Kinew has now. And rightly or wrongly, his crimes need to be weighed against the fact he is indigenous. Him becoming a beacon or goal for indigenous youth - especially male, and especially those who do not have a lily white background - is far more important for reconciliation in this country and especially this province (again IMO) than focusing solely on something he did in his past.
