London has more then its share of high risk intersections due to poor design and geometry. I would suspect that the majority of the collisions we have in our annual top 10 collision intersections list are left turns.

These are usually established on high-risk intersections for accidents when turning left. I've seen them used here more for pedestrian safety, but that's usually the reason. Some behind-the-scenes traffic study recommended it.
