I feel they dropped the ball on craftsmanship - it feels like they took the scale of a mid century one but stripped all the detail off. And I am not a fan of the modern movement. At least emboss some of the mullions - give it SOMETHING other than just 90 degree angles.. pretty much every type its trying to emulate had some sorta fancy stone sculpted element at the top or above the entrances. Really the only eye catchers here are the "stone" (yes I know precast) bands near the top and the style of windows, which admittedly is better than nothing, but when you compare it to their other two (three if you include olympia club) builds the craftsmanship side feels like it falls short.

I mean, compare to westinghouse..

Feels a bit dull and bland in comparison.. doesn't it. All I am saying is they could have done a bit more embellishment - we tend to expect a bit more from them than other architects at this point. I will give it credit though, at least it has stone lintels under the windows.

I do kinda feel like they may have gotten inspiration for this one from the one they JUST renovated as it has similar elements. The 3 story one I believe it was.

I've really warmed up to this buildings design. Originally out the 3 of this project this was my least favourite design but the more I look at the renderings it looks like they took a timeless century old factory/warehouse and made modern lofts out of it. Kind of like the Distillery District in Toronto. They have recreated the old and blended the new and I really hope they pull it off when complete! We'll know soon enough lol

I feel much like you do.

And the render may not reflect the end result. It could end up being better (or worse, depending on the personal opinion)

Yeah I mean they DID change their second render a bit - but details rarely ever become MORE detailed than the render.. usually less.

If it was up to me I'd have every building have its own sorta architectural "schtick" - something people focused on - an elaborate cornice- a nice embossed feature, or engraving somewhere, just something to make a statement to last the ages. I am not advocating to put the name of the business etched into the building like the old days, that does date it pretty quickly, but just.. something cool.

And yeah I mean this build is still better than most- at least it has stepped in brickwork - I am just so starved for classical architecture and core urban is the only one that does it new that I guess I was just a bit disappointed is all.

Judging by the tables and stuff in the rendering yeah probably a restaurant - it would fit in with the existing area being all bars and restaurants.

The James-facing building will be called The Greystone. 56 units with a rooftop patio.

Not sure if we want to re-name the thread given the trio of projects included here? It would have to be something like:
The Laundry Rooms, The Greystone, and 26 Augusta St | ? | 6, 8 & 8 fl | Under Construction

Some like having the address (easier to find) than the project's name. If enough gives a thumbs up, I'll change the title to include the project name.

I'm fine with the names, but I like the addresses for ease of finding them back. If we do decide to use the names, we need to make sure the first post about a project has the address so it's indexed by Google.

Anecdotally, when I speak to some urban planning friends we rarely use the advertised name, or sometimes we do, but it's much easier to recall the street projects are on than the names of the buildings, especially when under construction or just proposed.

In this case since the addresses are in the main pages, and the buildings are done, I would be supportive of the title change because they're still searchable in Google by address.

Definitely prefer addresses over names. I can't keep track of all the generic condo names.

And the names can change. Greystone could become Beigerock or Diplomat Towers or something in the future.

Building names come and go, but addresses are (typically) forever, and are easier for research and navigation

We can just stick with addresses then, nevermind the names.

Wasn't there a rumour a while back that Core Urban purchased the last remaining parking lot bounded by these streets. Whatever happened to that?

That's what some thought, though they'd already announced phase 3 by that point so it was odd.
