I've often thought about the old auto haul-away land on west Main Street just east of Rallye Motors. It's a big chunk of land in a great location. The interesting thing is that it will be very close to The Junction Urban Village when Ivan Rand Drive is eventually connected. I can't see the Junction developers moving on this land at this time to create a phase two since they aren't close to building out the property they have now. But what about another developer?

I have heard rumblings at my place of employment of a building of height that is very non-Moncton status quo.....would this be tied to your secret? Hahaha!

Looking forward to seeing this announcement. Downtown is a explosion of activity already. Its amazing seeing some street scapes that now resemble other major urban centres.

Average being what like 6 storeys? Not trying to pry more information but legitimately curious as to what an average height for be for a multi tenant building in downtown Moncton.

Disappointing but not all that surprising. I suspect the first phase of Ashford's development might be on the north side of the new east-west street and adjacent to the Delta Beausejour. This building would include a relocated library and market with an attached parking structure. The old jail lot facing Assomption blvd. may be the site of the rumoured 17-storey "signature" building of this development and thus may be several years before construction starts... if plans don't change.

Agreed. It will likely take Ashford over a decade to complete this massive project, and work likely won't even begin until Downing Street has been converted into a mixed use boulevard, and the new cross street behind Assumption has been created.

That infrastructure project alone may take a couple of years to complete. I would not be at all surprised if it isn't until 2025 before we start seeing shovels in the ground for any actual building construction, and, as you say, probably the first one to be built will be the relocated Farmers Market, and maybe a new downtown library building.

Instead of letting this land lay fallow for five years or so, Ashford has decided to pave it over for temporary parking and make some money off it. This is just a business decision. In the universal scheme of things, this doesn't mean a thing.

Plus, as the new streets break ground, parking spots will be lost, so this area can be used for temporary replacement parking.

And after Ashford finishes the building on Highfield Street, they have the two large buildings on Lorentz Drive to work on while the infrastructure projects are being done. That will give them 4 nice apartment buildings that they've completed while waiting for their big project(s) to get under way on the Assomption land.

I think that this is a sign that maybe something is a foot when it comes to the development of Downing Street and the other to be named street. Also the parking lots is better looking than the old jail.

Yes, I mentioned this a bit ago when the old jail was coming down. This combined with the parking at the old theatre/nightclub for SNB creates enough extra parking that they can build the new street behind assumption place.

Just noticed last night that the land I mentioned earlier between the rod and strip mall on main has been cleared. and there is orange tape on the perimeter. Fresh tracker tracks...

I think this has to do with the fact they are installing rip-rap along the riverfront here to prevent erosion. I don't think it is development related.

I'll have a look though the next time I drive by.
