Also what is a master planned community? Anyone who has been to Brentwood Costco knows it is already stretched to the seam. It not only service Brentwood area which btw still has many more towers pending completion. Brentwood Costco also service whole south Burnaby. It you go there on weekends , you circle for parking and then wait more than 10 minutes to go through check out. Brentwood is ripe for a third grocery store. A company as forward thinking as Shape should have kept this in mind in their master plan. Yes I am also a nerd.

I don't know what all the animosity about grocery stores are, as someone who only uses transit I would love TAB to have a grocery store. Yes Save-On and Whole Foods are nearby but when the weather is crap you want something close. Maybe we could get an Urban Fare or something. Doesn't have to be big, but to pick up essentials.

It seems like people were expecting a mall that only has high-end retail and doesn't sully itself with a lowly grocery store, such as the likes of Pacific Centre. It's probably never going to have a No Frills, but I don't see what's wrong with it having an upper brand Loblaws grocery store. People gotta eat!

I like the clean lines on the towers - even with the balconies they look less residential and more like a downtown type of building.

WRT the retail mix between SOLO, Madison and Brentwood, Brentwood is more of a regional mall, whereas the others are smaller in scale and more neighbourhood service oriented. During the 1990s regional malls moved away grocery stores and other hard goods /practical stores towards fashion. Sporting goods has returned largely with a sports apparel focus. I think Madison Centre will have a problem generating traffic in its mall if/when Winners leaves.

Maybe they didn't find a grocery store but Shape has been on record saying a grocery store was coming to TAB.

There was talk way back there would be one at the corner of Lougheed and Alpha in a later phase.
and the Sporting Life space may have originally been for Target - which would have had groceries.

I guess it was around when the rezoning was happening but they mentioned a 50,000 square feet grocery store.

Owners in Tower 1 used to be so active on this thread but now that people have moved in, it's completely silent in here. Like, how are people finding the building and where are all the photos??

I also wonder how the first tower looks from outside now that people have placed all their crap against windows and on balconies?

My guess is the Target space may have been for grocery store, but then Sporting Life wanted in and specify that space , otherwise no deal . Hence it becomes SL .
Same with the Sears space, Tesla wanted that space . Now Shape left with no suitable space for a major grocery store for phase 1.

Seems doubful a grocery store wanted the Sears space. Tesla is just temporarily in the space until it gets redeveloped in Phase 3.

Yeah, there was that rendering with a mock-up Sporting Life style sign at the north end of the mall. So either they moved when the opportunity arose (due to Target bankruptcy) and/or Sporting Life didn't want to wait for the later phase.
Still curious if there's a tenant for the large space on the plaza level (premium rent no doubt)

As it stands now, Sporting Life could end up the largest retailer in the mall (no department store).

I guess this is the Target rendering

https://www.burnabynow.com/opinion/your-...ss-of-brentwood-mall-bus-loop-1.24002730

And the Sporting Line rendering. I wonder if that "Brentwood Market" is where the grocery store was planning to go in? In the leasing map the Sporting "Line" store was 16,500 square feet and the "Brentwood Market" was around 13,000 square feet..

Dayumn, a "61th" floor sub-penthouse unit (2BR/725sqft) is renting for just $2,600/month. That seems like a pretty sweet deal to me.

Lots of amenity photos with the ad, but unfortunately only one photo of the crazy view. The unit seems to be almost as high up as our unit in Sovereign, although we are on a hill. This tower sure is tall!
