Fantastic news!

I guess this means you will stop your inane crusade now?
Au contraire, most don't. Only a handful are or will be built with a mall/mall-like podium: Station Square, Brentwood, Lougheed, Solo, Gilmore, King's Crossing, Vancouver House and the New Westminster Station mall.

That makes sense, as the plaza it's currently in farther south on North Road will be redeveloped.

ron,
ah so they will move from their spot further south on north road?

I wonder if the hotel redevelopment where the best western is now will have a large retailer like a grocery store too. With the other shopping centre on north road apparently getting redeveloped that will leave the independent grocery store looking for a new home if they want to remain in the area.

Hmm so outside of Burnaby's town centres there aren't many places building towers with retail podiums?

As far as I can tell: only a handful of high-ceiling retail podium mixed-use projects. Definitely a lot more in Burnaby and Coquitlam than anywhere else.

Just realized the Cameron / North Rd project is by ONNI (i.e. The Mark)
So take the renderings with a grain of salt.

The Intracorp project is split between two sites, so I would think neither of the two towers will be as tall as anything along Beresford? I would expect to see 20-30 floor towers at these locations, which will be perfect scale and transition from Beresford. Already Sun Tower 2 and Gold House 2 are in that scale, so I would assume something similar.

I am really confused by the 2152 & 2172 Douglas Road project which calls for a 147-meter tower. Is the map indicating its location wrong, as on the map the tower would be south of Hwy 1 at the intersection of Canada Way / Gilmore which makes no sense.
While I realize this is Skyscraper Page, it is worth noting that every one of those "dumps" provides affordable housing. And unlike Vancouver, Burnaby does not require rental unit replacement when demolitions occur, nor does that city have any homeless shelters.

They are still dumps though

Burnaby has no homeless shelters?

Why are they dumps? They are older buildings but they are mostly well maintained and they provide affordable housing for middle income people. The rents in these places are over 1000 a month for a 1 bedroom. It's not like these are welfare buildings.

Nope, Corrigan the Hypocrite is happy to push off the problems he creates to other municipalities. I don’t get how that showboating fool keeps getting elected.

Older woodframes can be really nice inside. Most units in my (owners only) building have been renovated in the last 10 years and besides the 8 foot ceilings and giant rooms you'd never know you were in an old building.

And since units are approaching $500,000 it's becoming normal for my new neighbours to be skilled professionals. Got a lawyer next door.

Sorry. They "look" like dumps. From the outside. And whenever I walk past them I find more often than not that the window coverings are shitty and the balconies have crap on them

Just like the 3 storey walk ups in the west end. They are all expensive but still look dumpy

Thanks! Is the current HMart site being redeveloped as well? Any ideas who the owners are?
