What a complete d-bag. This is why everyone hates Toronto's "center of the universe" mentality - imagined or not. Can't believe anyone would actually agree with this.

Did they also install a mini canopy over the top of the media section? Looks like it.

Ahh, gotcha. Misunderstood then, because when you clarify like that, it's definitely true. Hawks fans of that nature have certainly popped up in huge numbers.

A bit of research shows World Cup final match stadiums with running tracks:

2018 in Moscow? Yep.
2010 in Johannesburg? Yep.
2002 in Kangawa? Yep. Where is Kangawa? Kangawa is about 50km from Tokyo or the equivalent of putting the final in say Newmarket, ON.
1998 in St. Denis? Yep.
1994 in Pasadena? Yep.
1982 in Madrid? Yep.
1978 in Buenos Aires? Yep.

And I'm hoping Edmonton packs Commonwealth for the game. I'd love to see 56,000+/- what they've altered for the event.

I believe that's the plan, yes.

to me it's not about T.O. vs edm it's about BMO vs CWS. however the representation of Toronto doesn't score you any points. That was classless

to be fair joberg never had a track, pasadena isn't rly a running track, moscow is removing their track in 2018 a full remodel of the stadium. also did the bernebeau have a track in 82'? it doesn't now.

you missed 2006 in berlin with a track and 1990 in rome with a track.

Since FIFA wants each venue to have the same playing surface, the thought of artificial turf back at BMO would have seen enough tears shed to solve the California drought!
hahaha nicely put sir!

I quite like the description of Edmonton being 5,000 away from a sellout, when it's still more than BMO can even hold.

Except most Rider fans do have ties to the location either living in Saskatchewan or having roots there...

And isn't it a good thing for the health of the league if it is viewed as something "cool" to be a Rider fan? Some markets struggle with that big time. If the Rider fans live in further away locales it also ends up helping the teams nearby as they will generally go to the Rider games at least and maybe a few more during the season. Rider games are even a "premium" game in Calgary where they charge higher prices.

Regarding the Blackhawks... I find that's what's happening in the Canadian sports scene especially. Because our major cities are wrapped up in American leagues, the markets/areas with no teams (being too small in the larger North American context) have no ties in that sport, so what often occurs is there will be segments of fans of a specific team based on who was successful when they became interested in the sport. And in the same way that supporting a Canadian league is no longer a given (CFL over NFL), a "Canadian" team is no longer a default choice like it used to be.

Cathal Kelly definitely does not represent Toronto.

Get over yourself. Using an article one person wrote (who is a self-admitted troll for page views) as a stepping point to start trashing Toronto makes you seem small and petty.

And let's not pretend like the whole FHRITP thing is something unique to this city.

You people should be better than this.

I do agree that Toronto,Hamilton and Calgary should be a part of this event. To have moncton stadium a part of this is embarrassing. I wish mosiac,Finished BMO and THF could be part of this. It would very such a better representation of Canada. In a perfect world Calgary would have a new stadium and the Big O would be completely renovated as well. But In the end we are left with moncton Stadium.

That caught my eye too... But looking at some other photos of Commonwealth, it seems like is been like that for quite a while. (I'm assuming you're talking about that cutout in the corner).

While I'd agree it clickbait/trolling. I'm not sure making Toronto a victim of unprovoked reactions is fair...

Maybe it's true that a lot of the country is looking for reasons to hate on Toronto. But that frustration with the "centre of universe" doesn't come from nowhere. It comes from things like this (even if it is laughable). The general attitude of the article is nothing new, although it is usually much more subtle and backhanded. For every person that is mad, there is another that has reacted with boredom because we've heard it all in some form or fashion before.

I don't care about the article as his opinion (as well as that of people on here, or anywhere else) actually doesn't really reduce my ability to enjoy my city and be happy where I live. Does attacking Toronto help? Nah. But let's not pretend some reaction was never provoked.

He may not be representative of the people of Toronto as a whole, but in the context of this discussion, yeah he represents Toronto. It makes more sense for Toronto to have a beef with him for doing so incredibly poorly.

If I worked for a newspaper, I swear every article I wrote would poke at this country's petty regionalism and insecurities and I would be rolling in web clicks. IT'S SO. DAMN. EASY.

I'll do this bit by bit.

It absolutely is. ONE sportswriter who happens to be located in this city, who has admitted in the past to make things up and troll on purpose for pageviews, says something trolly. Immediately all over western Canada they use it as a springboard for the usual garbage Toronto hate, including here, which is supposed to be smarter than the average person.

Yeah, it mostly comes from western Canadians, exaggerated by western Canadians. If anything Toronto is incredibly self-deprecating, meanwhile Montreal and Vancouver go on and on about how they're the best city in the universe and you'd have to be stupid to prefer Toronto.

He shouldn't be, and it's stupid to treat him as such. I don't read something Mark Spector writes and immediately jump to "SEE THIS IS WHY EDMONTON IS A SHIT CITY HURR DURR". It shouldn't be the same the other way around. One garbage journalist doesn't speak for a city. People should be mature enough to realize that.

And in fact many Torontonians do hate Kelly. That's why a ton of us are ignoring him (I'm only reacting to the lets-hate-Toronto party crap on here).
