I meant not a big whoop because it's only on the route for about three weeks and only on one of the three flights. Would have recoined my post as a big whoop if it was at least "permanently seasonal." :-)

YYC-IAH will only have the E75 temporarily as well. By December all four dailies go back to the 738 and 320.

YYC-ORD is getting the E75 now for awhile too.

I think YYC is a great place to bring it!

There is some story as to why LOT cannot use some or all of their 788 on schedule runs. I think it has to do with subsidies and other govt assistance the airline received in connection with the 788 purchase.

I'd love it even more if they'd make a YEG stop.

But just in the grand scheme of things, it's a bit funny because the 788 is doing big things across the globe, not the least of which are YYZ-HND and SFO-CTU and it will probably be the aircraft that allows us YYC-PEK...

...and here it is doing random charters into YYC. We'll take it.

I would guess they bought more 787s than they needed, and now have more metal than they can handle given the slack in the global economy. So with a guaranteed yield, run the plan that has the best fuel burn profile for long distances. With 6 in service and 2 more on the way according to wiki, their (most be low frequency) ultra long hauls to Singapore, Bangkok, Beijing, and winter destinations it just might make sense.

Crazy streak of uncommon visitors continues. United 767-400 inbound from ORD landing in a few minutes... and in Star Alliance colours at that. First 764 here ever?

I agree! Are there, or have there been, proposals of that kind, in the works?

Apparently operating another RAF charter too, and I do believe it is the first 764 to come to YYC.

Did just that on a UA Express E45 from IAH to MEM last summer. Best video of massive thunderheads and lightning strikes I have ever taken inflight. We obviously flew around them but yeah... was pretty broncobustin'!

You're referring to turbulence though, I'm speaking as to a single engine drift down altitude that would put you in between the rocks. Two very different things.

The story with LO is this. The European Commission has ruled (not official yet) that the state aid provided by the Polish government was within the rules and regulations of the EU. This means LOT will not have to pay back any of the "loans" and they will be able to start new routes once again. The word is 2015.

Until this ruling is official, LO has new route restrictions meaning no new routes allowed. Currently, LOT has been farming out it's 787's wherever it makes financial sense. Finnair has wet leased the aircraft twice and now Air Serbia and Turkish are rumored to be interested. LOT has also significantly increased their charter services to Thailand, Vietnam, Africa, Dominican Republic and Mexico.

As for their planned expansion to the east, it may become a nightmare. LO had to bend over multiple times to Mr. Putin to be allowed to fly over Siberia to get to Beijing. Now this will be even more difficult with Poland firmly behind Ukraine in that conflict. There have already been extra sanctions put on the Polish market so i don't see LO getting routes to the east anytime soon. I always thought that perhaps a wet lease to AC would be a good idea but i doubt AC would ever wet lease aircraft. In fact i am unsure whether AC has ever done this.

This very summer, thanks to 788 delays.

Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau) will wet-lease two B767-300(ER)s from euroAtlantic Airways (YU, Lisbon) covering the period July 1 to August 6, 2014. In a statement, the Canadian operator said the need for additional equipment was as a result of the late delivery of the airline's new B787-8s from Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare). The B767s will be deployed on flights from Toronto Pearson to Bogotá, Lima, and Madrid Barajas.

^Yes you are right Acey i did read this before but forgot about it. I think people would have enjoyed LO's 788 more than EuroAtlantics 767.

AC also wet leased cargo MD11 during the mid 2000s.

In the 80s AC co. Leased Dc9 with Eastern Airlines. The planes were painted half eastern and half AC.

That's pretty bad-ass. No need to go to Chicago anymore to do that.
