Thank you! I was guessing it was about that tall. I know a lot of you miss the building, but I hated it. It always looked like a cheap tacky Las Vegas building. By the time I started going to the mall, it was already rundown. So I don't have any nostalgia for it.

Off topic done.

I took a little walk over to City Creek during lunch and snapped a few pictures while I was out.

This is the spot on Main that has had the Utah Film Center sign up for quite a while. Zion's Bank Business Resource Center has set up shop in half of the space

With all the fighting going on, did anybody even notice these photos that DCRes took? Thanks by the way. This thread needed some kind of a photo update.

Guys, there is a thread discussing the issue of gay marriage in Utah already on the forum. You can find it here:

Boyer 101 in the flesh looks like its address is Cottonwood Parkway—not 1st South. So, eh.

Thanks for the photos.

I definitely agree. No offense to the Cottonwood Parkway area, since my dad works in there, but seriously. It just relates so little with the surrounding area.

At times like this I remind myself that they could have put only a single street level entrance and set it back from the street several hundred feet. It could be worse-- But I really wouldn't have minded something better.

Looks like the state's stay was denied by the 10th District Court. That is huge because the next stay can only be brought down by the United States Supreme Court.

Here is an interesting article on the impact it's having on the economy. It was deleted, which confuses me because it's directly tied to what this forum is all about, so, that must have been a mistake on their part (no worries, I'll repost it):

It'll be interesting to see what this ruling does for Utah's economy. I could see it further opening the state, and city, to outsiders, bringing about a large amount of economic growth and development associated with that growth.

For sure. Being the only conservative state in the nation (and very conservative, at that) with legalized same-sex marriage will prove to be a boon, I think. Although one must consider, of course, that in several years marriage equality will become the norm and that competitive advantage will be negated. But for now, we are the most business-friendly state that allows gay marriage—bar none.

Conservatives are not conservative on all of their viewpoints.. When it comes to things like gay marriage and liquor laws.. Utah Conservatives believe that government is the answer... That is not conservative.. It's hypocritical and generally where liberals stand.

People who refer to themselves as liberal tend to be the conservative ones when it comes to issues of gay marriage alcohol and drugs..

Conservative simply means that you want the least amount of government involved as humanly possible without resorting to anarchy.

A lot of Republicans tend to go big government liberal when religion dictates it.. That's why t I prefer to go the libertarian rout... We are logical and consistent.. Republicans are just a bunch of progressive sellouts who are okay with big government as long as they're the ones calling the shots... The current Republican Party or just a bunch of liberals in sheep's clothing... Bill Clinton was more of a conservative than George Bush... Bush and Obama are both big government liberals.

Merry Christmas

So the GOP convention wont be held in Salt Lake City, one of the reasons being, there is not enough places for people to stay down town. Per Fox 13 news. I guess it becomes more amd more clear we need a big hotel

Merry Christmas! Though my posts are infrequent, this forum is one of the things I've really enjoyed being a part of since moving to SLC earlier this year. Thanks everyone.

Here are a couple more photo's I took last Monday. The first two are from the site of the new Garbett Homes development on West Temple that we discussed a few days back.

These are some town homes that are being built at about 750 N 300 W

I'm excited for the Garbett Development on 300 N. The area already a very mixed architectural style and I feel that Garbett's development will add another more modern element to the area. I think there are several areas in the Marmalade District, that could be redeveloped with some modern architecture and would make that area even more desirable than it already is.
