It's quite a nice little area, lots to see and do for adults, too.

this thread was started in 2008; this has been one of the worst project management jobs I have seen in my life. so slow so behind such lack of care to the community that uses the park and sea wall. total crap.

They didn't even start the renovations of the building itself until after the Olympics, and the outdoor park didn't really get started until they were nearly finished the building renovations. I'll agree that the progress from then has been slow, but you're exaggerating somewhat considering that Science World is a charitable organization. It's not like they had the money sitting around to get this done in a few months.

And if you really wanna be picky, the project was first announced in 2005.

I'll have to agree with hollywoodnorth here. It did close down right after the Olympics, close to 3 years ago. The progress was painfully slow, and the whole area has been like a construction zone for the past 3 years. The summers are very busy in that area for cyclists, pedestrians and tourists. The "progress" has been a complete joke.

I bet they've lost tons of business from people not visiting Science World during that time.

I think Science World's fund raising is still ongoing for the outdoor park. I am grateful the construction is now almost over.

Question wrong thread, dumb question, but please ....

Was this ever given any more than a passing consideration? This is new to me, and should probably be in the viaducts thread which I can't locate just now. Anyway, it looks intriguing, and unless there were safety / cost issues, I'm surprised it's scarcely mentioned here. Whatever DID happen to the idea anyway?

Never seen nor heard of it before.
Looks like a student's conceptual project.

The outdoor park looks all but done. Unfortunately I didn't get too many great shots.

Here you can see Central and Opsal in the background.

I'd say so. The rent a fence is only there to give the grass time to take hold. Construction is complete and has been for a while.
