That's just across from the Flatiron, no? It looks really sexy...and to start this March? Fantastic! It's about time some projects got underway in the Quarters. But I believe the article's mistaken that this is Edmonton's first Hilton Garden Inn.

I think this is the big exciting project the mayor is talking about.

It is exciting but not earth shattering as he is suggesting.

Keep in mind these images are over a year old.

Cold/CMD, are these concurrent with the plans/renderings you saw yesterday?

Looks good. Looks like an airport hotel.

Not sure if this has been posted, but Jasper and 116th - Canterra plans mixed-use midrise.

Seems a bit monolithic on the N-S axis... that's really my only criticism. Love the glass, love the juxtaposition of angles and curves, LOVE the overall retrofuturistic style. Perfect location to kickstart development in the Quarters. Absolutely can't wait to see this go up.

Interesting, CTV had a spot where mandel said there will be a "shocking announcement" regarding a new downtown development.

Go here:
http://edmonton.ctv.ca/

find this on right hand side of news clips:

New development in the works for downtown
Mayor Stephen Mandel said a shocking new development is in the works for the core of the city, as developers gathered to talk over ways to improve the downtown core.

(ctv doesn't let you link directly to the video source...)

Analyzing the video, this announcement has nothing to do with an Arena. It's separate.

My guess is Aimco's new tower (aka manulife 2)

Avison Young has identified it as Aimco Tower (not suggesting that is the announcement) - could also be the Procura development adjacent to the Mac (hotel)

I'm not sure if I just like you solely on the basis that I've generally agreed with your perspectives and appreciate the positive nature of your posts overall, or if it's a coincidence because your avatar is Randy Marsh.

Either way...

I'm not 100% sure a new hotel would "shock" Edmontonians, as eluded by Mandel.

Maybe it's a privately owned and operated monorail!

Did you say, "monorail"?
Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!
What'd I say?

Ned Flanders: Monorail!

What's it called?

Monorail!

One does not simply walk into mordor "revitalize" without installing a "monorail".

Lol. Monorail.

A new tallest office wouldn't be that shocking.
Actual construction on most of the runway areas at City Centre airport starting in February? That might be shocking enough.
Pending implosion of the unfinished condo renovations on Saskatchewan Drive?
That new kick ass bridge across the river into downtown? That might shock me.
