W. They'll be digging down 3 stories on almost the entire block. That's a lot of dirt to get rid of.

Covered walkways are being set up on N, E, and W sides of the block. They're taking away 2 lanes from 3rd Street!

Austonian. Working on the 5th level now.

They're really sprucing up the covered walkway along Congress. Turning it into real advertising.

Legacy looks nuts from Joe's Crab Shack. It's like the new world's tallest is in Austin. Love the sky in those shots. Ah, I must go downtown. Some people like to go hiking, camping or to the park, I like to go ride around downtown for 5 hours on my bicycle.

The Legacy is really going to stand out there. I was in Austin, the weekend of the Texas Relays, and it was not looking like it looks now.

from the look of the picture near 2nd and Congress......gosh, virtually nothing will separate Altavida and 100 Congress, maybe 4 or 5 feet, if that?

BTW, Was at Waterloo Records and noticed that the lights were off at Spring, didn't notice any nighttime crews working.

Downtown was hoppin'...lots of traffic and I guess a lot of high school proms, graduation parties or whatever. Horse and carriage to the right next to me at Brazos and 6th St. as I was heading home...horse was getting antsy or nervous...skiddish or whatever...proceeded to unilaterally run the red light and nearly got killed. Scary moment.

Nah, the two buildings are about 15 to 20 feet apart. There's still an alley between the two buildings. Most alleys in downtown are about that width.

That was the first weekend after we moved in to our building. Never seen so many sport bikes in my life. A few photos:

Yes the legacy is in a good spot....plus it is near the water...But the Austonian will really stand out since it is in the middle of the skyline and will be the tallest. I can not wait till it is topped out!

Ha ha, what a coincidence! Just took a few snaps of Spring on the way home. And yes, they're up to floor 11 now.

Wires!

does anyone else find it odd that the glass on 360's spire is different from the rest of the building. check out priller's last photo above...its probably because it doesnt have to block the harsh sunlight that the glass on the rest of building does, but still...

The bricks are not faux. They are real bricks, but it is veneer brick, ie. they are not structural. Veneer brick is applied one brick (or wythe) thick (load bearing brick is usually at least 3 bricks thick). Load bearing brick is almost never used anymore because it is a poor insulater in itself, and is an inefficient use of material. Veneer brick is self-supporting but has to bear on a brick shelf (or floor slab on a highrise), and be tied to a backing wall with masonry ties to keep it from tipping over. The brick work on the building is actually going amazing quickly. They must have a large and skilled masonry crew working on it. The attention to the brick work doesn't really explain the apparent slow down in stuctural concrete work. Finish masonry and structural concrete are generally different trades. It probably has more to do with scheduling of material or equipment (or possibly crews). There is a lot of construction going on around town, and resources are not always easy to come by when they are most needed.

I'm surprised to hear that those bricks are real. I've looked at them many times and they don't seem to have any depth or texture to them. From the street, it looks almost like it's made from paper. I know it's not, but it doesn't really look like brick, either.

I can't believe how tiny Spring is. It's like two VW beetles wide. lol j/k Seriously though, that is one itty bitty building.

That's a lot of words to say very little.

That is not a bad thing being so small.( The spring ) The fact is that at a height of 432 feet it makes sence. The Legacy is the same way though shorter on the opposite side. This will mean that there will be too bookends to down town that because of their width look taller than they really are.
