I think the next decade or so will really make or break whether Chicago reaches the next level as a city, and transit will be the key. Most important is fixing the existing system to make it faster and more reliable. Next is expanding it to make areas beyond the Loop easier to get to from someplace other than the north lakefront. This is turn would lead to less required parking and hideous podiums on new construction, and make Chicago as pedestrian friendly as New York or European cities.

I agree with you 90 percent, but the 10% is only for nit-picky reasons. I'd say a sub under grand would be best, and I don't really think chicago is pedestrian UN-friendly.
