Another photo of the Interlude and Crescendo, but I post it because have we ever posted about that establishment on the right of the photo: The Cloister?

ETA:

In an NLA search I found the Mocambo nightclub closed in June, 1958, and was followed by The Cloister.

I posted this back in 2016:

Quote:
Here's a short video of the strip in 1961, passing by the Crescendo and Interlude on the left at about the 15 second mark.
The youtube page also identifies a place called The Cloister Club. Is that the building right before the Crescendo?

Video Link
Turns out yes, it is, it's also the wing shaped sign you see in the video photo above, on the left, but...there is some sign/banner across the "Cloister" name,
but I can't make out what it says. Anyone else?

I was trying to figure out what the building on the left side is, with the three letters: G N P.

In a 2016 post on NLA, link HERE, BDiH answers that question:
The Crescendo and the Interlude were operated by GNP, or Gene Norman Presents.
The Crescendo was the main venue, while the Interlude, upstairs, was the smaller club.

I believe I've figured out who this handsome gentleman is. (red box below)

No wonder he's sitting near Rudolph Valentino.

*note that the annotator spelled both Considine (Consodine) and Valentino (Valantino) wrong.

North end of old Chinatown looking across Alameda. Future site of LAUPT. The giveaway is the long building on the left of the S.P. yard which has the large door opening. Add the structure just behind it to be sure. It’s in all the aerial views of this section, even where other details may change.

A ground level view of the large door building in photo #2, so this should be Macy Street looking eastward. The large building with smokestack nearby is off Lyon Street in annotated aerials (see W&PA site). [Is that the old Aliso Street alignment?]

Mystery photo #2 was probably shot from the Methodist Church building (?) at the corner of Marchessault and N. Los Angeles Street where Alameda converges based on W&PA views: https://waterandpower.org/museum/Early_Plaza_of_LA_(Page_2).html

It’s this whitey structure just beyond The Plaza:

W&PA pages as above linked.

And another W&PA view of the entire area with the “big door” building still present:

For a rat infused view of this whole sector see here: https://theasphaltisland.weebly.com/long-works/_3074028

That Methodist Church was apparently built on the site of the Olvera Adobe:

Vernon Dent and Violet Joy appeared together in the 1921 short Up and at 'Em--a very short short, 8 or 10 minutes long. The lone IMDB reviewer compliments Dent and notes that he resembles Roscoe Arbuckle, as indeed he very much does in the photo posted here (it has to have been intentional). Dent had a long career as a very able secondary player to many top luminaries, Harry Langdon for one. A late performance of his is one many may have seen: A Christmas episode of I Love Lucy had the four leads dressing as Santa . . . but then a fifth Santa shows up. The fifth Santa was Vernon Dent.

Edit add: Oops. I see that Alkapone already identified the film. Sorry!
