That provides some idea on how to twin TCH through National Parks in B.C.

While I'm still disappointed we haven't heard any new projects or movement from the Feds regarding the Trans Canada, here are some new photos of current projects underway in BC:

The new interchange in Chase, BC, is taking shape!

First girders at Sicamus should be in when I go through in March. Looking forward to seeing this route change.

^ The navigation system in my rental vehicle mistakenly thought that the speed limit on the straight stretch was 120 kph.

Hwy 7 should be twinned, joining the TCH in Carleton Place and the 115 in Peterborough.

MTO’s focussing on 6-laning the 401, so Highway 7 might stay at 2 lanes for a while.
That said, Perth is exurban Ottawa so a case to extend the freeway from Carleton to there may be had. Ditto for Havelock, which is pretty much exurban Peterborough.

Yeah I agree that extending the 4-laning/freeway to Perth would make sense. Same with Havelock. Where is the 401 being 6-laned right now? I think it has been 6 lanes to Cobourg for awhile. I know the 6-laning was done through Kingston. Has it been done anywhere else between Cobourg and the QC border?

The section through Belleville and Trenton needs to be widened for sure. The old overpasses need to go. Is the cloverleaf interchange in Belleville with Hwy 62 the last remaining one in Ontario? I know the one on Hwy 401 with Hwy 4 near London still exists but it's currently under construction and should be gone soon. I'm impressed how much Ontario has spent to get rid of cloverleafs unlike many other jurisdictions. Much safer and easier on drivers.

The 6 lanes on the 401 ends at KM 479.5 just east of Cobourg (other than the orphaned 12 ~ 13 km through Kingston. Planning is underway for bridging that gap, but it will be a while.

Ps: If Highway 7 remains busy between Madoc and Perth even after 401 gets 6 lanes, HSR should be the solution…

Yes, I reverse my position. I would hate to see more nature destroyed for the sake of highways.

That depends on how the freeway is built. MTO generally uses 110-m ROW (or wider in case of cuts and fills) and occasionally as low as 90-m ROW (for grandfathered design) in the wilderness. 90 m may sound like a lot, but that’s pretty much the minimum ROW width within which to fit a 30-m median.*
With a median at least 30 m wide, most of the nature within the median is preserved in a lot of cases (such as ON-400 through Parry Sound, and ON-417 through McNabb Braeside where one can actually see Precambrian sandstone lying unconformably atop the shield rocks in the median). Of course, there are also cases where it isn’t: ON-69 south of Estaire has a massive rock cut with a grassy median because all that rock has been used to fill part of the swamp (with a culvert) for the divided 4 lanes. ON-17 near Lively used to have rock cuts in the median but the rock has since been removed due to rock fall issues.

*Technically, the divided section of ON-17 immediately east of SSM also has a 30-m median with only 80-m ROW, but that’s only because the agricultural terrain is very ideal for a narrower ROW.

The (other) Great Unconformity! Apparently I'm not the only one who practices drive-by geology.

For what it's worth, I believe in that area near Arnprior you're probably seeing Ordivician rocks overlaying much older Precambrian rocks - almost a 1 billion year gap. Not quite the 1.2-1.3 billion years at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, but still pretty impressive.
