Pretty effective strategy. Was in Alberta last week and quite a few even Wildrose Conservatives who wonder if Carney might be best placed to fight for Canada. Doubt most of them would ever vote Liberal but they are considering it. I bet the immigrant community in Calgary and Edmonton does in large numbers.

political necessity, not opportunism....we have the conservatives to thank for our future climate policy that will come from our tax dollars, instead of actually paying most of us.

I'm not sure I get the lament. The Liberals have full control over their climate policies. To be honest, the boost they've gotten from Trump is so strong that they could probably run on the consumer carbon tax again in their platform and still win. They're choosing not to do so.

not sure about that...the slogans were effective.....the lament is that carbon pricing is good policy but it was politically toxic....i have total faith that a new policy will be developed with Carney, but it will cost us instead of paying us.....people are suckers.

The carbon tax was dead the moment Justin Trudeau gave Atlantic Canada a carve out in response to pressure from the Atlantic caucus. Remember Gudie Hutchings telling the prairies to vote Liberal if they didn't want to pay the carbon tax? Public sentiment took a 180 after that. Poilievre wouldn't stop hammering on it, but the Liberals made their own bed here.

Regardless, that was all in the past. I don't think Canadians really care about the carbon tax one way or the other right now.

Just literally months ago, Forumers on here were arguing til they were blue in the face about the need and logic for a consumer carbon tax. Now it's no biggie....how the sheeple are fooled.

But I swear they were telling us that the carbon tax put more money in our pockets??

it is a biggie.....it sucks that I wont get paid for my low carbon footprint....i hate Pierre for relentlessly hammering a policy that he himself won his seat in the HOC over.

Thankfully with a Liberal government climate policy will take a new form....it just will cost me money now.

that statement doesn't say the previous policy didn't put money in our pockets...it's just a fact that it di, no matter what anyone on the campaign says.

I still think it's a good policy. Climate deniers have convinced too many voters that it's a scam. Gotta play to the lowest common voter sometimes.
