This different rendering of the building was included in the CMHC Rental Report presentation at the upcoming Growth Committee meeting on March 18th. (It's on the slide about "2024 Housing Starts").

I am happy to see balconies are now included in the lower units; I think that will boost the appeal. Also, is there some kind of penthouse on the top level?

Interested to see what’s going on, on top of the roof. Perhaps a communal outdoor space on the rooftop? That could be cool.

It looks like from the lowest point the building will be 14 stories now.

I’ve been in SE Asia for the past few months and love the prevalence rooftop bars/restaurants. In Saint John we used to have “Top of the Town”. It always feels like more of a destination when you take a lift and pop out at the top of a building for a drink or meal. And the views at the top of 91 King would be spectacular!

I definitely think a rooftop bar/restaurant would be great! One of the best things to do when travelling to new places is finding a cool rooftop spot for the views.
Maybe we could see one at the top of the potential hotel at the fundy quay.

I suppose that image is an improvement, but I still don't think the massing of the building is very good overall.

Also, I know several of us have said this before, but this project's inability to provide an image that situates the building in Saint John is pretty ridiculous and a little funny at this point. This one might be the worst yet, the surroundings have nothing to do with Uptown at all.

Which city did you find had the coolest rooftop bars?

Rooftop bars and restaurants catching on could take Uptown to the next level in terms of summer vibes, especially days when the harbour is busy with both cruise ships and container ships.

Never seen the view from on top a roof on the top of King St, but I've been on a few rooftops near Water Street and Princess and it really is a different perspective. Few restaurants and bars Uptown have amazing views of the water, despite it being a peninsula.

Imagine if Loyalist City Brewing had a rooftop patio.

Bangkok has the most spectacular rooftop bars/restaurants but they’re usually extremely expensive. I’m in Udaipur, India right now and there are dozens of amazing rooftops but not one elevator. They’re all on the 5-6 floor! We’ll be back to Saigon in a month or so, they have some very nice ones too.looking forward to the relative sanity of Vietnam!

It’s more likely rendering city has in an older design, between the original and newly released one. Percy was looking to cut costs, so unlikely he added floors and balconies, rather took them away.

What a debby downer! I thought they add floors and or units to help their bottom line. Correct me if I'm wrong. Might be mixed up with something else.

They may be underfunded and/or undercapitalized and just can't afford to build bigger or with features that add cost.

This is such a prominent location it will be a shame is the building turns out to be less than 1st rate.

OTOH......this is Saint John, hardly the wealthiest place in Canada and you need to build for your market.

I have been following this development for years now. I am pretty sure there has never been a rendering that was 14 stories and a rooftop penthouse structure. Hope this is new!!

I detect some of that classic "NB-ism" I keep referring to shining through! LOL

Saint John isn't poor. Yes, it is primarily "Blue Collar", but I wouldn't say it is a poor city. Overall, the economy here has been pretty stable compared to other places. Is it a booming tech town like Kitchener/Waterloo with big 6-figure PLUS engineer jobs? NO. But it is also not over-dependent on lower-paying hourly freight and warehousing industries like other places here in NB, or across Canada. There are lots of well-paying unionized roles in Nuclear Energy, Shipping, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, and more.

My argument is that Saint John has good, middle-class or higher employment opportunities in either long-standing and essential industries and home to a cluster of companies which are very loyal to the city. They just aren't "sexy jobs" compared to say ones in finance, tech, or real estate - all of which are pretty volatile industries.

I've always admired it for that longevity. You can't really find a city like it elsewhere in Canada.

There will be another road closure tomorrow for more Crane access. The last one was supposed to be Wednesday-Friday, but King Street was open Thursday and Friday, from what I could see.

I know there was noise before about the city being unhappy with the unplanned closures, but I am not sure planning closures that don't materialize is much better.

Also, I will be gobsmacked if they are working until 11.30 PM.

It’s not Debbie downer, it’s reasoning out. Otherwise you’d think Percy would reveal the new design to generate excitement (like he has with the current design where there are renderings right on the construction site). And yea based on my experiences with the city staff in that department, sorry wouldn’t be surprised if they used the wrong rendering. I surely hope I’m wrong though.
