Canadian skylines of the past

Old Montreal and downtown in 1963. Virtually everything in this picture is still intact.

Awesome thread idea!

And Calgary is the most impressive skyline in terms of change. Definition of a boom town.

Amazing to think before the oil boom...how much Alberta has changed.

This aerial photo of Halifax looks to have been takes sometime between the late fifties and early sixties:

Hamilton: I picked these out of the "Old Pics of Hamilton" thread here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=151765 I guess they don't really count as skyline shots per se but Hamilton doesn't really have a traditional skyline like most other cities.

I'm guessing that Cummer ice and coal changed it's name since?

A drawing of London, Ontario from around 1840. This looks towards the courthouse from the west bank of the Thames River, just upstream from the fork:

Think Toronto looked like a third world city in the 1800s? Welcome to downtown London, ca. 1880. I believe this is an early version of the Covent Garden market, with Dundas street in the background. All these buildings have likely since been demolished:

Fast-forward to the 1990s. Here's a shot of One London Place under construction in 1991:

And a shot of the downtown in 1996. The black building to the right is the old CN building, which doubled as the city's train station:

And that was imploded in early 2001, making London perhaps one of the few cities in this thread to actually create a larger gap in its skyline. Strange to think this was only a few months before 9/11.

It's a reversed image? In the picture Commerce Court is on th left of FCP......right?

Sorry for the late reply, but bingo! It's mirrored for whatever reason.

1930 Regina photo with Trans Canada Airlines aircraft

@Chadillaccc in this post:
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...1&postcount=22

I believe the aircraft is a Canadair North Star - 1946 entry in service - so the photo can't be from 1930. Nice photo BTW.

It's backwards and can't be 1973 as the First Canadian Place was not completed until 1975, and RBC was not completed until 1977??
