I..Am..Speechless

http://campussqueeze.com/static/20-ugliest-colleges-in-the-USA.html
i saw this posted on Chicagoist and am dumbfounded. Campus Squeeze (blog) named IIT the 9th ugliest campus in the U.S. But this is the comment that made my jaw drop...

What do you expect from a bunch of net nerds that are apparently 11 years old LOL - it's like a list of who's cute and who's ugly in a grade school lunch room (like the South Park episode!!).

Maybe he was just having a bad day when he visited IIT, hung over, not enough coffee, who knows? But UIC should've been a contender.

I quickly skimmed the first post and saw "campus" and "ugly" in the same sentence, I thought for sure it must be UIC.

Agreed. UIC should definitely be on that list. It's far and away the ugliest campus I've ever seen.

UIC's problem for me has always been that the pieces don't hang together all that well. there are some absolutely fantastic works of brutalism like university hall or the science and engineering offices, but then there are those atrociously ugly walter netsch "snow flake" buildings like the art and architecture building that are just bad, bad, bad.

wow... yeah, mies... what a crappy choice... and jahn and koolhaas... don't get me started! EWWWY!!

The low-rise buildings are so nasty and dull that they feel like a blast from the past.
yeah, mies sux... they should've gone with something much more beautiful and timeless like...

IIT is a suxy blast from the past... EW!

what a bunch of low rise crap

oh and BTW... to the dumbass who wrote the review of IIT... crown hall is not the main building... the burnham & root armour building is...

IIT is so ugly that the only thing that could save it is to tear the whole thing down and rebuild something really timeless like something gothic or classical... 'cause that's what beautiful schools like princeton look like...

IIT's dullness just makes me yuck!!

You can put UW Oshkosh in contention for this honor! The article author is either: 1) Not a Mies fan or, 2) Doesn't know Mies from Pres. Bush!

Being an IIT alum with pictures I took of the campus hanging on the wall I'm looking at right now, this very much feels like a personal insult and pisses me off to no end. The beauty of blogs -- people yapping about things they don't have the first clue about. I suddenly feel Lecom's pain and share his bleak outlook on the Interweb in general (re: Lecom's recent skybar thread for those who've seen it)

BTW thanks for the pictures Adrian

The buildings in AdrianXSands' post and the Campus Squeeze page apparently appeal to a lot of architects, but do you really think the general public likes them, on average?

Personally I agree with the general public. The majority of these buildings are hideous. Some are cool, and others are cool in some ways. But yeah, most of us will take a high quality faux historic building over Mies anyday.

I doubt he ever visited the campus.

This guy is a total tool that knows nothing about architecture.

He embarrasses himself and does not even know it.

But I figure when they let the comments come back on-line he will get an ear full from some of our more qualified forumers on this topic.

Just because we like certain buildings doesn't mean the general public does.

I could have done without the bashing bashing IC in order to compliment Cornell.
