Didn’t the developers themselves publicly say not that long ago something to the effect of “nah, it ain’t real, we were fuckin with y’all”?

My understanding is that Lee Golub said as much at an event that a forum poster in attendance relayed here. Then, some time after that, CIM put out a request for bids, sparking hopes that it might be revived.

I suspect that the tippy-top of the condo market might be saturated relative to its size here – or those buyers want to be closer to Oak/Rush Street, gauging by the success of 9 W. Walton.

I'd like to see more mid-market high rise condo projects again, which haven't really been built in the last 15 years. Perhaps with financing challenges for apartment projects that will come back soon.

Not sure if it was ever said publicly, but I remember a poster here (by all appearances credibly) related that they attended a private event and that was said.

I understand that taller projects tend to be condos, but with the current strength of the luxury apartment market downtown I’m curious if a pivot in that direction is something that developers like those behind TTE would ever start considering?

Would be cool if they could somehow preserve/integrate the stately 7 story structure somehow into the future development, even if its just the facade. I feel like River North is for the most part really devoid of older building stock, and large parts of it feel almost soulless as a result.

Apparently it was the CEO of Golub who said this (not publicly), although CIM group is also involved so maybe they still have some intention of building it.

The sales director at Trib Tower also said phase II (as currently approved) isn't happening. I wouldn't hold my breath...

I'm not but obviously it would be an incredible project.

Where did you hear this? If sales are going so well why not build something here? (Even if not 1,400 feet).

It's sad that Chicago may never see another 400 meter building by roof.

You’ll probably be criticized for saying that, but on a serious note, I’m really wondering if we’ll see something tall get built before a very, very long time transpires. Really a shame as the “birthplace of the skyscraper.”

Seems this was the only shot, unless a new proposal arises, gets approved and financed within a short time period etc... I'm not holding my breath for that.

As far as phase II goes I'm not sure what source officially said the sales director said the project is no longer.

Where did you hear sales were going well? From the Crain's article...

The buyers who paid $4.37 million for a condominium at the former home of the Chicago Tribune yesterday saved more than $2.5 million by not picking it up two years ago, when the Gothic skyscraper’s redevelopers first put the unit on the market.

I'm more optimistic..... Not about TTE, but Chicago in general.

Proposals come and go..... And if you have been following Chicago development for more than a decade, you have the scars to prove it. With that said, we have also seen some solid tall buildings go up that have made our skyline even more beautiful.

There will be more proposals in the future at some point that we can drool over, just remember we aren't in the 1990s..... where literally nothing was built for a few years in downtown.

On the previous page it states 77% were sold in the first three years. Maybe that's not great but not terrible either.

Chicago in the 90s was the best skyline on earth right up there with NY and HK, it didn't really need to build anything.

Chicago is sometime cursed when it comes to building super talls. I wish Chicago had a better environment to make super talls happen. Hopefully the 2030s will be better for a Chicago boom.
