Lapua is a municipality locacted on the Lapua River, and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The city is notable for being home to the worst accidental disaster in Finland's modern history, which was the explosion in the State Cartridge Factory on April 13, 1976, which killed 40 people.
