Williamsport is located along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River, 90 miles north of Harrisburg. The city was incorporated in 1866 and is the seat of Lycoming County.

Williamsport was an important lumbering center until the early 20th century. The city is the home of Little League Baseball and the site of the leagues international headquarters. The Little League World Series is held in Williamsport every year, attracting teams, spectators, and tourists from around the world.
